2015 Headliner: RaeLynn
Sunday, September 13, 2015 | 2:00 pm Oak Street Stage
With her empowering Top 20 hit, “God Made Girls,” RaeLynn became the highest charting debut single by a solo female artist in 2014. The song skyrocketed to the #1 spot on the iTunes Country Songs chart and earned GOLD-certification by the RIAA for sales exceeding 500,000 copies in addition to the music video garnering over 10 million views. Now, her follow-up single, “For A Boy,” is available on iTunes.
The vibrant 20-year-old was selected as one of CMT’s Next Women of Country and recently released Me EP. RaeLynn penned the collection of five tracks for The Valory Music Co. project, which climbed into the Top 5 on iTunes Top Country Albums chart on release day. Taste of Country insists, “fans of every age will find a trio of lyrics to get behind” and Popcrush calls her “cheerful, charming, ultra-talented and downright hilarious.” Just like her musical hero Dolly Parton, RaeLynn embraces her Country roots with a flash of pizazz, commemorating her Grand Ole Opry debut with an “Op-Rae Selfie” from center stage. The Voice (season 2) alum, who has returned to the show to perform, is featured on “Buzzin’” from coach Blake Shelton’s new album. So far this year, she has toured on fellow Texan Miranda Lambert’s CERTIFIED PLATINUM Tour and will hit the road with Rascal Flatts’ RIOT TOUR 2015 this summer. Earlier this month, RaeLynn partnered with the National Association for Music Education and Give a Note Foundation to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Music in Our Schools Month. To support the foundation’s mission and encourage music students nationwide, RaeLynn penned “Always Sing,” which is available on iTunes. Broom Corn Capital of the World
Arcola celebrates its heritage as the “Broom Corn Capital of the World” with the renowned annual Broom Corn Festival. Visitors can see broom activities, arts/crafts, free entertainment, great food, and a gigantic parade with the Famous Lawn Rangers. Additional, visitors can participate in the Arcola Broom Corn 5K and 10K races. The event, held the weekend after Labor Day, honors Arcola’s position in the late nineteenth century as a center of broom corn production.
World-Famous Lawn Rangers
Arcola is famous for the Lawn Rangers, a “precision lawn mower drill team” that marches in formation with brooms and lawn mowers in the Arcola Broomcorn Parade. Every year since 1980, the Lawn Rangers have marched in the Arcola Broom Corn Festival Parade. This unique custom was publicized by humor columnist Dave Barry, who marched with the Lawn Rangers in 1995 and has written columns about them. In 2003, President Barack Obama marched with the Lawn Rangers in the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade to launch his race for the senate. As a result, The World Famous Amazing Arcola Lawn Rangers were invited to march in the 2009 Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C.
